The weak computer takes a lot longer to load games than I’d like, though, with each new screen taking at least a minute to show up. It’s not an eardrum-shattering noise, but it’s loud enough I turn the machines off when I’m not using them to avoid the distracting fan noise. The second pinball machine is just as loud. I thought I might have an issue with my review unit, but after Arcade1Up sent me a new computer and I swapped them out, it still didn’t help.

It’s not very powerful (as evidenced by the 720p lock), yet the fan that keeps the board cool is surprisingly loud. It’s quite heavy, very awkward, and I nearly dropped it. And though you’ll see me flip the entire unit on my own, don’t be like me: get some help.

You will need to turn the main box glass-side down to connect the legs, so I suggest getting a blanket to lay it on so you don’t scratch the system up. Your job is to build the upper box that holds the speakers and DMD (Dot Matrix Display), connect the wiring between the two boxes, and attach the legs. The main “box” housing the glass, display, and computer arrives already assembled. You won’t even have to build the whole thing. We’ve continually praised Arcade1Up for designing cabinets that are easy to put together, and that remains the case here. The good news is, putting the cabinet together is a mostly easy (if not tedious) affair. Get yourself a dolly and maybe a second person on hand. The bad news here is the box is super incredibly heavy. It’s not an Arcade1Up cabinet unless you need to do some assembly. Right now, Arcade 1Up isn't listed in the CES exhibitors search or show floor map, but you can bet I'm going to look for them once they establish where they will be.Buy a Pinball Machine if the Price Is Right I'm going to scour the show floor next week in trying to get an up close view of this. Then you're not limited to just a subset of tables available and this really turns the product into a very versatile virtual pinball machine for those who don't have the skill to make one or want to spend thousands of dollars on one. If someone is able to get the WiFi to download tables from Zen or even Visual Pinball, well that would make this really damn awesome. $500 is what they are aiming for, but we'll have to see if they are able to hit that price. That's not to say in the future you won't be able to get new tables, but that's not the plan for now.

WiFi will be a feature for the machine, but right now it's been said that it's just for software updates and not for getting new tables. The legs can be height adjusted so you can move it up and down based on whats comfortable for you.Ī faux coin door with some buttons will be on the front so you can simulate putting in coins into the machine.

On the backbox, there's a 7" LCD screen, interchangeable display marquee artwork, and two front facing speakers.

The top will be a 24" LCD screen and Arcade 1Up is aiming for 1080P resolution at 60 fps. Some really cool features are that it has solenoids in the flipper buttons so you'll get that feedback like you're activating real flippers even though they will be virtual. Pictures show it's a Star Wars themed machine and I've heard the are partnering with Zen Pinball Studios to do this. Leaks last Friday showed that Arcade 1Up is planning on releasing a 3/4 scale pinball game with an announcement coming this week at CES.
